Emotional Cues in Knocking Sounds

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Background Acoustics features in music and sound and their connection to body gestures have already been investigated in previous scientific studies, such in the case of musician movements while playing an instrument, or footstep sounds. It has also been proved that humans are able to visually identify emotions in gestures only as suggested for example by previous studies on musician and non-musicians movements, as in the case of arm/hand movements in knocking. In particular, after successful studies in identifying acoustical cues in emotional walking and finding their high correlation with acoustical cues used in expressive music performance, we would like to investigate if the same similarities could be found in emotional knocking sounds.

Some non-F0 cues to emotional speech: An experiment with morphing

This paper investigates some non-F0 cues to emotional speech. Two speech samples were collected from spontaneous speech: the word “leave”--one sample spoken with emotion (sad) and the other, as not-emotional. Using the morphing algorithm of STRAIGHT [1], we morphed a series of 12 utterances, starting from the non-emotional “leave” to the emotional “leave”, keeping F0 at 300 Hz. Perception test ...

Emotional pictures and sounds: a review of multimodal interactions of emotion cues in multiple domains

In everyday life, multiple sensory channels jointly trigger emotional experiences and one channel may alter processing in another channel. For example, seeing an emotional facial expression and hearing the voice's emotional tone will jointly create the emotional experience. This example, where auditory and visual input is related to social communication, has gained considerable attention by res...

An investigation into vocal expressions of emotions: the roles of valence, culture, and acoustic factors

This PhD is an investigation of vocal expressions of emotions, mainly focusing on non-verbal sounds such as laughter, cries and sighs. The research examines the roles of categorical and dimensional factors, the contributions of a number of acoustic cues, and the influence of culture. A series of studies established that naive listeners can reliably identify non-verbal vocalisations of positive ...

Auditory cortex activation is modulated by emotion: A functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) study

Visual emotional stimuli evoke enhanced activation in early visual cortex areas which may help organisms to quickly detect biologically salient cues and initiate appropriate approach or avoidance behavior. Functional neuroimaging evidence for the modulation of other sensory modalities by emotion is scarce. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to test whether sensory facilitation by emoti...

Emotional Influences on Auditory Perception and Attention

The auditory perception is a fundamental part of our interactions with and experience of the external environment. We receive considerable amount of information from our surroundings through sounds. The auditory system takes care of this continuous flow of information in a seemingly effortless manner. It functions as an adaptive and cognitive alarm system that scans our surroundings, detects an...
